The Poem of the Week this week was called "A Noiseless, Patient Spider" and it was DEFINITELY my favorite poem thus far. I feel as if this week's poem had a lot of deeper meaning that was almost spiritually related. Parts of it sound like verses from the Bible. My favorite lines are the last three of the last stanza:
Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing,—seeking the spheres, to connect them;
Till the bridge you will need, be form’d—till the ductile anchor hold;
Till the gossamer thread you fling, catch somewhere, O my Soul.
I like these lines because they are so verbally intriguing. The language is so delicate and descriptive. The comparison between a web being spun and the soul making connections. The soul reaches out for things, yearning to make a connection with anyone or anything as a spider shoots out threads, trying to find an anchor for its web. Connections of the soul could be relationships, feelings, emotions, anything. Something for the soul to feel, and connect, and hold it down. It reminds me of a verse from a song we sing at church: "An anchor for my soul, a well that never will run dry." The soul is looking for something to fill it. This relates to an actual spider web because spiders cast out strands, looking for a literal anchor. Looking for a place to catch it's web and hold it firm.
