I feel as if this we have done more work this week than any other previous week. This week consisted mostly of writing and finishing up our essays on "What is Literature?". Our group has selected the two topics of Characterization and Point of View, so we read the stories, "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings", "The Boarding House", and "The Destructors." My favorite story was definitely The Destructors. We have worked on our essays a lot this week and they are just about finished up. Now we just have to move onto the presentation.
The Destructors was my favorite because I felt the most engrossed in this story. It was very interesting and I often found myself asking, "What on earth is going on here?". It's not usual to read a story about young kids in a gang who tear an old man's house apart...It felt a little strange reading this but I also enjoyed it at the same time. Usually when you think of gangs you think of adults or teenagers, not kids. And usually kids are not so destructive as to tear down an entire house just for fun. I think that's part of what makes the story so intriguing - it's not your run-of-the-mill short story.
